Religious Formation – Parents of PreK to 6th Grade – November 27, 2020

November 27,  2020
Dear Parents of Kids in Pre-K through 6th Grade:
This week you should work on Session 7 of “Faith Stories” at home:  “God Calls Moses.”  This is such a great story and provides a good opportunity to talk about gifts that God gives us to fulfill his purpose.  Plus it is a great time to talk about the 10 commandments.
This Sunday, November 29,  is the First Sunday of Advent!  If you have an advent wreath, now is the time to dig it out.  If you don’t have one, you can make one!  Here is a video showing you an easy way to make one – you can even get the supplies at the dollar store.
There are more suggestions in your December packet about using Advent wreaths in your home.
Here is a good overview of Advent:
If you are looking for advent inspiration delivered to your email inbox, sign up for The Road to Bethlehem, a journey that includes daily Advent reflections and enrichment from FORMED. Changes to the Religious Formation Schedule for December:
2020 has been a year when everything changes on a dime!  That is the case with Religious Formation at Christ the King as well.  Some changes for Elementary School parents in December are as follows:
We will NOT have the children’s class and parent’s class on December 6 because of the limitations on the classroom capacity.  Instead, parents can pick up their December parent pack from me on:
Sunday, December 6
near the front entrance of the church (by the Narthex)
at 8:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. (after the Masses)
If those times don’t work for you, contact me and we can work out another option.
The December packet has lots of fun items to celebrate Advent, Christmas and Epiphany in it.  It won’t have the regular lessons, but rather Catholic ways to celebrate the season in your home.  Plus the first four people to pick up the packet will get a special door prize!
Unfortunately I had to cancel the Jesse Tree Event that was scheduled for December 13.  I look forward to getting everyone together again someday – but that will have to wait until next year.  In the meantime, celebrate Advent in your families and some new traditions!
You can come to Mass in person!  Mass times are Saturday at 4 p.m., Sunday at 8 a.m. and 11a.m.   Join us!  If that isn’t possible, here are links for Mass online
Blessings on your family!

High School Parents – November 27, 2020

November 27, 2020
Dear High School Parents,
Blessings on you and your day! I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!
I have a few items to cover for last week and this coming week. If your student is seeking Confirmation, please be sure to read the second portion of this letter.
We had a great time in fellowship this past Sunday for High School Discipleship. We finished session 1 of the Who is God series by Ydisciple. In this session, we discussed the true existence of God. We talked on the challenges of believing in God and how arguments against his existence are not true. Our conversation in this session was so fruitful, that we only made it through half the session.
This Sunday will be confirmation prep. To keep simple for confirmation students, we will be holding Confirmation prep class on zoom at 12:15 this Sunday. Please have a microphone and camera if possible to make the experience as interactive as possible. If your student is not in Confirmation prep, they are encouraged to join in person or on zoom to help plan and prepare for the Living Jesse Tree with one of the core team members.
On December 6th, it is planned to have adoration and confession in place of normal class. This is being offered because there will not be a city wide Advent youth Reconciliation service offered this year. It is very important to practice the Sacrament of Reconciliation to develop a relationship with God and to prepare for the Christmas season. I strongly encourage all teens to attend this event. Please respond to the short survey below asking if your teen will be participating in this wonderful event.
On Sunday. December 13th, join us at the Living Jesse Tree outdoor event. In this event, families will meet Old Testament characters that pointed the way of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus, in a pilgrimage. We are looking for teen volunteers to be actors and help run the event.
Join us at Mass this weekend. Weekend Mass times are as follows; Saturday at 4 pm, and Sunday at 8am and 11am.
Attached is the High School Discipleship schedule which has been updated, the interest survey for Adoration and Confession. and the snack sign up link. Be sure to go over the parent sheet with your student and sign up to volunteer to bring snacks one week if you are able.

We will begin with a program called “The Search.”   Here is the teaser:  “What is this journey in between the event we call “birth” and the one we call “death”? Is the journey taking you somewhere, or are you leading yourself to some kind of destination – a destination that could extend beyond your last breath? What do you want from your life during the in between? The questions are there. And, the answers are too.”   Join us!     Here is a one minute trailer:  https://watch.formed.org/the-search/videos/the-search-trailer

ANIMA CHRISTI (Spiritual Communion Prayer)

Soul of Christ, make me holy.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, drench me.
Water flowing from Christ’s side, wash me clean.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Let me never be separated from you.
From the evil enemy defend me.
At the hour of death call me
and bid me come join you
that with your saints I may praise you
forever and ever. Amen.
